The Lenape are one of the 500 North American Indigenous Nations that lived in what is now the United States, more specifically in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, southern New York state and the state of Delaware.

Its name means "the town." They are also known as the Lenapes Lenni (the "real people") or the Delaware Indians.

The Lenape were a part of the Algonquian group. In their language, they called their homeland Scheyischbi, "the place that approaches the ocean."
